Daily Devotional: 1/18/19

1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world - the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life - is not from the Father but from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

Abide in God. He is the vine, we are the branches. We cannot grow into beautiful, strong branches without being fed by Him! I know it's so so difficult in a fallen world to not be of worldly desires. We are constantly surrounded things thought to fill us: alcohol, sex, etc. But it is all fleeting. We will constantly be climbing up a ladder only to find ourselves at the bottom of another.

Never confuse this with not being able to enjoy the desires of the world. Jesus just wants us to be in this world, not of it. I pray dearly that the Lord gives you the wisdom to desire His plan above the ways of the world.

"The road that leads to heaven is risky, lonely, and costly in this world, and few are willing to pay the prices. Following Jesus involves losing your life-and finding new life in him." -David Platt
