Thirsty Thursday: The Power of Prayer

By Adrienne Marie - August 31, 2016

Coming back to school can be stressful. And although I've spent the past 2 years of my life in this college town, it's still an adjustment for me to start a new school year. I'll be the first one to tell you that I don't handle change super well... And starting my senior year was no different.

But through this past week, I have really seen what the power of prayer can do. It's one of the most relieving and awesome feelings knowing that there is someone who wants to talk to me any and every second of the day.

Philippians 4:6 says,

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

I used to think that I was silly to talk to God about (what I thought were) dumb things going on in my life. I figured that God didn't care or that I was wasting His time. But in actuality, I learned that God is actually the one who cares more than anyone else. He wants to hear any and everything you have to say to Him!

All the changes that come with starting a new school year definitely got to me. But I'm glad that my first instinct was to pray and continually read my bible. Doing that was the only thing that kept my heart steady for the first couple days. But God answered my prayers in ways I would never have even thought of. He provided me with all the people and resources I needed. He turned my life around 180 in only a few days and I now can honestly say that He is the reason that I have never been so content and joyful in my life. All through the power of prayer!

After talking to many of my friends though, I have realized that a lot of students really struggle in coming back to school. I was really inspired by one of my friends who wasn't completely there in her faith with God but that she was having struggles in the beginning of school too. Even so, she told me she prayed about it and within a couple days her prayers were answered.

Literally, hearing how God is changing other people's lives is what gives me joy. Especially when He is using me to do so. I want nothing more than to fulfill God's purpose for me.

So I encourage you to pray about everything and never think that anything is too big or too small for God to handle! No matter where you are in life, God is constantly pursuing you! He yearns to have a relationship with you and that all starts with prayer!

Xo, Adrienne
