When I started my class this Summer, I had no idea what God had in store for me.
My class is a 6 week lab where I complete 8 experiments with my lab group of 4. So basically, I spend an average of 9 hours a day with the same 3 people everyday, including weekends... Before the class started, I didn't know if I would hate or love my lab group or how our group dynamic would be. But I realized that, worrying about the people I would spend most of my life with for the next 6 weeks was not going to do anything for me. I realized that God brings into our life the people we need, not the people we want. The people He needs to hurt us, break us, build us and make us. We're all part of God's story. So it's important to remember that our primary role in God's story is to be disciples of Him.
The Great Commission says,
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." - Matthew 28:18-19
Although my role here on earth right now is to be a student, my job of sharing my faith with others comes before that. But since I've started my class I've realized how much I struggle with doing just that. So in the past 6 weeks these are the 5 things I've discovered help me share my faith at school!
1) Don't be afraid to be honest about the importance of your faith! When a conversation with a fellow student or a coworker flows into talking about faith, don't play it down! The joy you evoke when talking about Jesus won't go unnoticed by others! If it flows naturally, go with it! God will always lead you in the right direction of what to say and when to say it.
2) Pray for your coworkers! I think sometimes we downplay the importance and power of prayer! God hears our prayers and He answers them in the most perfect way possible! So pray for you coworkers or fellow students. Make it a habit to pray for them on your way to work or school. Pray that God helps you use your position to be a missionary.
3) Excel in what you've been blessed with! God has given each of us talents and gifts so that we can used them to further His kingdom! We don't think of it, but working hard and doing our best in our job is a way of praising God. Be the person that coworkers can rely on and look up to!
4) Don't be afraid to invite non-Christian coworkers to coffee or lunch! Once a relationship has developed, spending time outside the office or classroom can make for an atmosphere that is more open to talking about faith. You can set a tone for your relationship as you get to know each other better!
5) Always listen to what God is telling you! When you are unsure of whether to bring your faith up, leave it to God! Lean on Him and He will lead you in the right direction. God will always be in the position with you to share His word in the best way possible. He will never leave you alone!
God will put you in the exact position He wants you to be in! Ask God to challenge you to show your faith at work! And when He challenges you, do it! You may realize how fun sharing your faith at work can be!
